Massage

Joy has worked as a massage therapist for over 20 years and has trained in numerous techniques.

She will often mix and match to give a unique and deeply relaxing treatment. She uses heated aromatherapy oils which smell and feel delicious and also penetrate deep into the muscles and joints.

Massage doesn't only feel great; it also has many health related benefits.

Swedish Massage

Swedish massage is a lighter massage than deep tissue massage and is extremely pleasant and relaxing. It generally isn't so effective for targeting back pain. However, the general relaxation quality of the massage can feel very healing. Read more
Joy uses a combination of strokes as explained below, this is generally performed as a whole body massage and can be either 60 or 90 minutes as preferred.

  1. Effleurage: Gliding strokes with the palms, thumbs and fingertips
  2. Petrissage: Kneading movements with the hands, thumbs and fingers.
  3. Friction: Circular pressures with the palms of hands, thumbs and fingers
  4. Vibration: Oscillatory movements that shake or vibrate the body
  5. Percussion: Brisk hacking or tapping
  6. Passive and active movements: Bending and stretching the body

Deep Tissue Massage

Deep tissue massage helps to release tension in the deeper muscles, joints and fascia, which makes it a really effective treatment for back pain. Read more.

Joy sometimes combines the sessions with Trigger Point Therapy and these sessions can be quite intense depending on the injury. The work tends to be very focused and Joy is likely to just target key areas in a one hour treatment. If you require a full body treatment, you will need to book a full 90 minutes.

Deep Tissue Massage when combined with Trigger Point Therapy is a very powerful technique and can be very effective for releasing tight tissue that so often goes hand in hand with back pain. Sometimes when the muscles are released, the back pain will go on its own.
